Church History
Organized in 1841 with thirty charter members by the Rev. Isaac S. Bonham, the Greeneville CP Church has pointed its spire heavenward since 1860 from its present location on North Main and Church Streets. Here Pastor John P. Holtsinger began construction of the first unit of the present building on a lot purchased from Senator (afterwards, President) Andrew Johnson for $1200. This spot has been the scene of a Cumberland Presbyterian Newspaper, The American Presbyterian, edited by the Rev. Joseph B. Dobson in the 1850’s. (For complete article, click on Church History.)

From the Pastor
When I first visited the Greeneville CP Church in October of 1996, I already knew something about the congregation. I knew pastors had typically served here a long time. I knew that worship and music were extremely important to the congregation’s life and identity. The congregation itself was often in the lead when it came to outreach giving. A fine reputation preceded this congregation that had invited me to get to know them. I was eager to meet the people face to face. (For complete article, click on From the Pastor.)
